| WHAT IS THE SALISBURY MD KENNEL CLUB? We have been in existence since 1953 and are devoted to the betterment of purebred dogs. Our members are dog breeders and owners from all walks of life. We have members that show dogs in almost every AKC performance event that is offered for their particular breed. We also have members that are just concerned and interested pet owners. SMKC is a member of the American Kennel Club. WHAT WE DO SMKC holds several annual dog shows. Combining with the Mispillion Kennel Club makes this a very popular 3 day event. There is conformation judging and obedience competition. The shows are held at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center, a wonderful spacious arena that is climatically controlled with heat or air-conditioning. Motels are only a few miles away from the site. In 1998 the AKC Gazette voted SMKC one of the "Top 10 Show Stoppers" to attend. Our yearly Sanctioned B and OB Match is held at the same location usually in February. In September 1999 we held our First Annual AKC 2 day Agility Trials and in 2008 we will host 3 separate Agility weekends (3 days in April, 2 days in June and 3 days in July) see Agility for further information as it becomes available. WHAT WE OFFER SMKC offers to its members and to the general public classes in obedience, conformation show handling, and agility. These are held ongoing 12 months of the year. Educational opportunities with seminars and classes are held on an ongoing basis in breed, obedience, and agility. COMMUNITY SERVICES We offer a Breeder Referral Service to the community providing information on buying a puppy, finding breeders, and other information on dogs. Our Canine Ambassador Program is available free to any school, Scouts, 4H, or any local clubs. This program explains briefly how to care for a dog and also includes short Obedience and Agility demonstrations given by 8 to 10 volunteers that are club members. The SMKC also has initiated a VEST-A-DOG program which provides bullet proof vests for the canine members of the Delmarva police force. Click for more information. MONTHLY MEETINGS Our bi-monthly meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm at the Training Center (time and date may vary so check the Calendar for updates). Our Christmas Dinner Party is in December at which time members dogs who have received AKC titles during the year are recognized with a plaque. FACILITIES Most of our activities take place at our SMKC Training Center, 1305 South Division Street, Salisbury, MD. Just one block east of Route 13 Business in the Skateland Complex. We have purchased land in WinterPlace Park and in the process of designing our NEW SMKC Building!! Watch for updates... we hope to be in our new home during 2008. MEMBERSHIP To become a member of The Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club, you must secure the sponsorship of two members in good standing with the club and attend three general meetings.
